Potty Training

So it's only day 2 of potty training Remington and I am already about to quit. Thursday night I finally convinced him that since he was a big boy now, the grown thing to do would be wear his big boy underwear. A few weeks before, I bought him some toy story underwear thinking it would get him a little more psyched about not wearing diapers anymore. Well, that was a complete fail. I took off his diaper and through a huge tantrum, I managed to put his underwear on him. As the tantrum continued, I tried to ignore him for a bit to see if my strong willed child would grow to like them on his own terms, well not 2 minutes after he had them on, he ran into the kitchen and peed on the floor. I'm assuming that he could not do it intentionally, but part of me wonders!

Anyway, back to day 1. We went to target to get a Cars potty cushion that sits on the toilet and some more underwear (Thomas the Train that he picked). He was pumped about sitting on his chair and wearing his underwear, so I was very hopeful at this point that he might actually catch on this thing pretty quickly. When we got home, he sat on the potty chair for nearly 20 minutes and didn't do anything, then 10 minutes later, he peed on the floor downstairs. I was mostly watching him for cues of him needing to potty, but he basically just was playing and all the sudden started peeing. Ugh! So, I tried again to make him sit on the potty before his nap time, but he still did nothing. After his nap, I put his underwear back on to try again. Made him sit on his potty, again, nothing. A little later, another accident. Dang! Ok try again. I noticed his acting like he needed to poo so we went and sat on the potty for almost almost 45 mins because I just felt like he needed to. We sat, and sat, and after about 30 minutes, a few drops of liquid came out. So yay, I went on to make a big deal out of that, even though it was not much at all. He told me "look, I peepeed!" I wanted to show him how proud I was of this, but still after about 10 minutes, that was all that happened. We sat on the potty several more times that evening and nothing else happened. Just before bed time, I made him sit one last time and he still did nothing. So diaper on, he went to bed.

Day 2, today, was not much of a success either. This morning I tried to get him to go after he woke up, but he probably had just gone in his diaper so nothing happened. around 9 I tried to make him sit on the potty, but he wouldn't go. Eden was napping, so I stuck a movie in for Remington and hopped in the shower for literally no longer than 10 minutes (this was right after I made him sit on the potty for about 15 minutes). When I came down, he had messed his underwear and peed as well. SO FRUSTRATING! I know this is like the only time I cannot really get "mad" at him for doing that since he most likely just doesn't understand completely, but I still made it a point (in my serious voice) that he needed to let me know when he needed to use the potty. "Yes ma'am" he says and goes on about his business. Little punk! Tried to make him go again before nap time, but nothing.

I'm going to continue to be as patient as possible, but I'm thinking that after either today or tomorrow, if things don't start 'clicking' then I will prob put it off until a little after his birthday.

Something I also should mention, I have a reason for being so detailed about this post. The first is for the same reason that I started this blog, so that as he gets older I can look back and remember these things that I would probably usually forget. Secondly, and more importantly, is for my readers to read this and see specifically my struggles so that if they have possibly been through this before, and might have any advice, can comment below and help a Moma out! Please do so if you feel you can help! I greatly appreciate you reading! :)

Intimate Issues Conference

This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending an Intimate Issues conference held at our church put on by Linda Dillow and Lorraine Pintus. And yes, it was about what you are probably thinking. More importantly, it was about God's perspective of sex. Just to be able to talk about Gods gift to us and how to present it to my children as they grow was such a gift! This 10 hour conference was seriously life changing and I recommend all women to attend a conference if you have a chance, or to at least buy the book Intimate Issues that the two women co-wrote. A more recent release, titled Intimacy Ignited, targets couples and includes the womens' husbands as authors of the book for the male perspective. Here is just a tiny snip-it of one of the topics that we discussed:

"(3) The husband should fulfill his wifes sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husbands needs. (4) The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. (5) Do no deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer."

1 Corinthians 7: 3-5

Not much needs to be said about this passage. Pretty direct and strait forward, although ironically, I feel its something not many of us women knew or understood completely before this weekend. Thank you Lord for calling these women to present these topics to us in such a tactful, yet strait forward way. The sanctuary was truly consumed with the Holy Spirit!

Holiday Break 2010/2011

Well, I finally have the time to update my blog with a Christmas/ Holiday post. We were gone from the Monday before Christmas (20th) to the Monday after New Year's (3rd), so while we were gone, there was plenty of fun activities and adventures to report about. I'll start with Christmas Eve. We always do Christmas eve with my side of the family and this year there was only one difference, we held Christmas Eve at my Mom's instead of my Meemaw's. My mom went with an untraditional idea of a taco dinner, so we went with it and it was delicious! After dinner everyone got to open up gifts and man did we have a lot. Lets just say that my kids were definitely taken care of this year. After the kids opened all their gifts, Santa (my pepaw "Paul") stopped by for a visit to give the kids their stockings. Paul was such a wonderful Santa and most of the kids loved him.. all except my child! Eden did great with him as long as he was holding her facing me, but as soon as she took a good look at him, she lost it. Remington on the other hand was terrified from the second Santa walked in the door. He hid out on the couch snuggled up with his new Buzz Lightyear and there was not way we were going to tear him off. Whatever the case, it made for some great pictures.

Christmas day was spent at my in-laws house. My sister-in-law and her family stayed over the night of Christmas Eve as well, so Noah and Cana were there to open presents from Santa and the rest of the family on Christmas morning. That was a lot of fun, even though Remington had gotten sick on Christmas Eve night. He was more worried about having breakfast in the morning than opening all of his presents. Later on that day my other sister-in-law and her family came with some of her husband family as well, along with Ross' Aunt Kim. It was a very relaxed day spent with wonderful family.

Finally when everything settled a bit, Grandma Sue took us and the kids to Incredible Pizza company for some fun. Remington had a blast with his cousins and Eden was so well behaved just along for the ride!

Also new for us this year is a project that Ross and I are in on together that we have coined the 180 project. We started a blog too help hold ourselves accountable. Let us know what you think at http://the180project.com
